Noe Valley Pet of the Month - February 2018

Introducing our 2018 February Pets of the Month, Petunia and Flora. These two beautiful ladies are 12 year-old Chinese Cresteds whose people, Chris and Brian, lavish with love and attention.

Flora and Petunia

How did you meet your people?
Petunia was out on the corner with Wonder Dog Rescue — it was a sunny day and there were tons of people looking at the other dogs because they were puppies and had fur (Chinese Crested’s are hairless and often voted the ugliest dogs in the world). Oddly Brian and Chris came immediately up to Petunia and fell in love with her (it may say something about Brian and Chris but that’s for a different article). Chris begged Brian to get Petunia but he was reticent. Chris took Brian to Sears Fine Foods in Union Square, ordered silver dollar pancakes to butter Brian up and over those pancakes, Brian was convinced that Petunia would make the ideal pet. When they went back to act upon their decision, Linda from Wonder Dog told them that Petunia had a sister and if they took her they should really take her sister too. After a bit of conversation, they decided there was no way they could split the pair up and took them both.

What are Flora and Petunias most unique talents?
Flora has gone blind, but can still make her way around the house, on her walks and even recognize her friends on walks. Petunia has no real talent other than being sassy - it’s more a job than a talent.

Favorite doggy treat?
Chicken jerky (organic of course) and snausages (Don’t tell our organic friends)

Favorite activity?
Sleeping and snuggling w Brian and Chris as they do it. If they aren’t touching one of us while they sleep, it’s rare.

Least favorite?
The vet. We treat the vet like many of you treat the dentist.

Which do Flora and Petunia most prefer: Long walks on the beach or sensual belly rubs?
Rubbing of the belly definitely. That said sensual is pushing it. Just rub the belly and don’t stop doing it.

How would you describe the perfect day for Flora and Petunia?
Up at 7am - a short but brisk walk with plenty of chicken jerky. Once done, feed us, pet us and then let us sleep. If you decide to wake us up before our afternoon walk, please be sure to have treats and love ready. At 5pm we go for our afternoon walk, eat some dinner and then snuggle w Brian and Chris as they watch bad reality tv - honestly, we’re beginning to love the Real Housewives - but don’t tell Chris and Brian.

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being “Nearly Human" and 1 being “Almost Squirrel”, how smart are Flora and Petunia?
Hmmmm were about a 6. Why would we wanna be human????
